Size

  • Females: approximately 5 to 7 cm, with a robust build
  • Males: approximately 3 to 4 cm, much slimmer

Region of Origin
It is found in the tropical and subtropical forests of Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.), inhabiting humid areas rich in flowers.

Diet
Strictly carnivorous, the Orchid Mantis primarily feeds on small flying insects (flies, moths, etc.). In captivity, it is given prey that matches its size, such as roaches, flies, moths, or other insects of similar proportions.

Breeding Requirements

  • A terrarium with sufficient height (around 20–25 cm for an adult) to allow for vertical molting.
  • A recommended temperature of 24–30 °C and high humidity (70–80%). Light misting daily or every other day helps maintain moisture.
  • Provide vertical supports (branches, stems, floral décor) for camouflage and molting.
  • Offer small live insects suited to the mantis’s size, ensuring you do not leave surplus prey in the enclosure.
  • Orchid Mantises are generally solitary and should be housed individually to avoid predation or aggression.
